A Handsome Greeting Card Organizer!

Thanks to For Fun Challenges I finally got the Masculine Greeting Card Organizer done for my Father In-law….it has only taken me 5 years but it’s done!

My Mother in-law and Sister in-law love having my cards on hand to give out to people. So I decided one Christmas to make them pretty tins to be able to keep the cards in. Then a couple times a year I would refill their stash. When my mother in-law passed away in 2006 my sister in-law took the cards and added them to her collection but didn’t need the tin. So I think it got thrown away or given away (can’t remember). At the time we didn’t really think my father in-law would have use for it since he doesn’t send out a lot of cards. Well, we were wrong. We got a call one day asking where the card box went so we told him and he said he was looking for it so he could send a card out. So I told him I would make a “manly” box for him to keep his cards in. I have given him cards to use but just haven’t got around to making the tin.

I realized I didn’t have any more tins that opened from the top and was the right size so last month a friend of mine gave me an extra one she had. Then Helen at For Fun Challenges decided to REALLY challenge us with a ANYTHING BUT A CARD CHALLENGE. I decided this was the perfect “kick in the pants” I needed to get it done. I had some cool looking manly paper (same paper I did the fishing card out of last month) and paired it with the Time to Fish Digital Image from Clear Dollar Stamps.  My husband helped me by telling me it needed the fishing pole and fish on there with the basket. I came up with the metal stringer and brads…which I think turned out cute! I actually think the WHOLE thing turned out pretty awesome! On the inside lid I placed instructions on mailing bulky cards….they cost more and you have to put “hand stamp only” on the envelope and hand the envelope to the mail clerk. Then I added the light tan piece to make a pocket to put some of the 65 cent extra posting stamps in there for him. That way he can keep them in there since they are for the cards.

I hope the challenge will inspire you to do something you have been wanting to do but haven’t had time! Put down the card making supplies and do something different!!

Celebrate Life blog hop!

Today at Clear Dollar Stamps we are remembering our crafting sister, Katie Renz, who lost her battle with cancer on Nov. 7, 2011. After a year of sharing her cancer journey on her blog with all of us she is finally pain free and in a peaceful rest. The blog world will miss her. The crafting world has a hole that no one else can fill. But we can find JOY during this time of grief in knowing that if we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior then we will have eternal life with him.

As you hop through each blog you will see how Katie has touched each one of us in her special way. Some were blessed with knowing her for awhile and some only got a glimpse of what Katie brought to Clear Dollar Stamps. I was one that didn’t get to know her but I couldn’t help but care for her as I watched and listened to how much the other DT girls loved her.

Today we are Celebrating the Inspiration of Katie by “casing” or “lifting” a card or project done by Katie. It didn’t take me long to see that Katie was the queen of making projects that were easy gift ideas. This is where my inspiration came from for my project to CELEBRATE how I was INSPIRED by Katie!

Inside the cards some are left blank and others have “Thinking of you” and “Happy Birthday”. This is a gift for the owner of the Jazzercise I go to! This stamp was perfect.

Look familiar? I got this ideal from several of Katie’s creations.

I just left the handle off and resized it.

Katie liked doing the 3 x 3 note cards in a matching box. I made mine the regular size of 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and made them all the same just in different colors. If you want the pattern and instructions on how to make this come back on Thursday and Friday as I will be doing a “Special Holiday Gift Packaging Tutorial”

Thanks Katie for the inspiration!

I hope you started at the beginning of the blog hop so you could see all the wonderful creations that were INSPIRED by Katie. If not you will want to start at Lori’s Blog – Clearly iStamp. If you have been hopping along you should of came from Jerusha’s Blog – I Love Paper Crafting. To keep you hopping along you will go to Shell’s Blog – Shell’s Stuff next.

If you would like to donate to the Renz family to help out her husband, Kevin, please go to Operation Renz Family. With Christmas right around the corner I’m sure he could use the help.

Please go here to read more about this fundraiser!! And the awesome stamps you can BUY with all the proceeds going to Katie’s family!

2012 Calendar Blog Hop

Hello! Today at Clear Dollar Stamps we are doing a special Blog Hop. We will show you 12 different ideas on how to use the newly released 2012 Digital Calendar Stamp.

If you are just joining us head on over and start at the beginning on Lori’s Blog. If you just came from Karen – Feline Creative you are in the right spot. For hopping along with us TWO lucky winners will receive the Year Round Calendar digital image!   The Winner will be randomly chosen from comments received on a DT member’s blog.Winners will be announced on Wednesday, 11/09/11, on the CDS blog and also right here!!

I made mine into a small desk top calendar. The base is made out of cardboard, paper and magnet sheet that has been cut in stripes (gives the bottom some weight). You know what I used to hold the calendar together??? I’m sure you have plenty lying around like I do!! The screws from a post album!! They worked perfectly and our neutral. You could also use brads (if long enough) or jump rings (I think that is what they called)

2012 Desk Top Calendar

October 2012 Calendar Page

October 2012 was my month to highlight for the blog. I used the pre-colored bitty bat image instead of coloring in the one on the calendar page.

I resized the calendar so the height was 2.6. Printed them out and cut just the calendar part out. I would either color in the image in Photoshop or use the pre-colored digital stamp already in the store. I would just resize it to fit on the calendar. The base of each page is 3 1/4 x 3 1/2. I also perforated the top just under the screws so that when the month is over you just rip off that page. I used the perforator Blade on my Cutterpede 12 inch Cutter. Then you can use that page as an embellishment on a scrapbook page for that month.

I kept mine pretty simple as I wanted it to be an easy gift item that anyone can make! I also picked background paper that added to the overall theme.

Here is the rest of the calendar.

Gifts and Decorations – Halloween Style

different ways to use one SVG file

It’s the 3rd Tuesday of the month so it was my turn to give the Tuesday Tutorial at Clear Dollar Stamps.

I’m decided to show different ways to make place cards for a party. But if you’re not having a party, they can be given as gifts! Or they can be used as both (then your guest goes home with something!) And don’t limit your imagination to Halloween because each of these can be easily used for Birthday, Christmas parties, graduation, etc…just change out the design and your ready for the next big event!

CHALLENGES:

1) Catch the Bug Challenge - Today’s Challenge is an Animal Antics.  Create a an Animal project  and post a link to it on Bugaboo Stamps‘ challenge blog, Catch the Bug,  by 10/22/11 at  6:00 AM EST to be entered a random drawing for three digi prize packs – seven (7) (using a Bugaboo image only), four (4), or two (2) using any image!

2) Stamptacular Sunday Challenge – Challenge #134 – You Choose!  For this weeks challenge you will create any card or a project that your heart desires! Anything goes! Please be creative! Try something new! Maybe even create something you’ve never made before! Oh…and don’t forget to stamp! After all, we don’t call this STAMPtacular for nothing!

All these projects were NEW to me. Never made anything like these before but I can tell you I will be making them AGAIN!! So much fun and so EASY!!

3) Creative Inspirations – Challenge #133 – Single layer card.

My place card is a single layer type of card. Also, it says they will take other projects if they fit so the toothpick decorations are a single layer. If these don’t work for your challenge just let me know and I will take it off.

4) The Pink Elephant – Challenge 121(TPE121) – “Scoring”!!   You just need to create a card/project using a “Scoring” technique. You can use either decorative scoring or scoring used to create a project (other than just a standard fold on a card!).

Well, this challenge was PERFECT! These project are all about scoring. You have to score the lines on the box so you can fold and know where to cut. And the place card is also scored. I just got my score-pal a week ago from Clear Dollar Stamps. LOVE it!! Wasn’t sure I would and almost didn’t get it. I have heard people complain about an other brand that the score tool is flimsy….NOT THIS ONE!! You have to be careful not to press to hard or you will cut through the paper. So happy I went with this brand.
