Yellow/Gray/Black Card

Yellow Gray Black Flower.JPG

So I posted the sketch on the Sketch Challenge (Feeling Sketchy #147) and Karen posted the color challenge (gray, yellow, white).

FeelingSketchy6-15-16

Well I happened to have a ton of yellow and gray scraps because I helped a friend last year with wedding signs and she gave me all the scraps. So I decided the sketch and color challenge should go together. Well then I went to Michael’s and guess what they had in their $1.50 bins….yep yellow, white, gray and black flowers. They were PERFECT!! They only had big ones in white…so I took off the center of the white one and put a medium black flower on top of it. So then I went back to the jewel aisle and found the perfect jewel swirls and got them discounted with a coupon!!! SCORE!!! I finally got a “wow” out of my husband when he looked at it….haven’t got one lately so I was excited!! I left the tag blank because it really could be for many different occasions…birthday, wedding, sympathy.

So I was going to go horizontal with the sketch but after seeing Cardiographer use a vellum tag to the side I decided to do that same thing with cardstock. Thanks Cardiographer.

This is my 2nd card with sketch #1 from the August Card Sketch Challenge. I saw this sketch and thought it would be perfect for a friend of mine who just became a grandma for the first time. The colors on the card are the colors of the nursery. I wanted a fun happy card cause that is the type of grandma my friend will be. Now the card didn’t come out as cute as I pictured but she loved it so that is all that matters. And I finally used my Sew Easy that I have had forever!!

Daisy Hello

So I found a Swap thread called Angel Swap. It’s not a normal swap because you swap names of someone that could use “happy mail/encouragement” in their mailbox (like an elderly friend/relative, or friend/relative going through rough time, someone sick, etc) . Then you get a name and make that person a card. At first I thought “well I should just be making the person a card instead of some stranger” but God prompted me to play this month. This month was a little different as we sent cards to the other “angels” instead of someone we nominated. And it was funny because I got Ro and she got me!! So this card was sent to Ro because she loves daisies! I saw this trim at Hobby Lobby and thought of her and Sketch #1 of the August Card Sketch Challenge and thought they would work well together.

I also made 2 cards for sketch #1 (August Card Sketch Challenge). This was the 2nd ideal that came to me when I saw the trim!!

Anime Birthday Card

Anime Birthday Card.JPG

I needed a birthday card for my 13 yoa niece. She is into Anime and she likes to draw. I found some anime digis I liked but they were only black and white and I needed color since husband was busy and had no time to color one for me. So I found this one and it came b/w and color!! I liked that it had a cutesy aspect to it instead of more grown up. She is growing up fast enough so I will hold onto cutesy as long as I can. Which when she saw the card she said oh she is pretty I like her!! Once I had the image then I went looking for inspiration on the design. August Inspirational Card Challenge – Lift Category – is to lift any of Mendi Yoshikawa’s cards in her gallery. The first card in her gallery I thought was perfect:
http://www.scrapbook.com/galleries/817285/view/5704823/4/0/0.html
The front says “Happy Birthday” in Japanese. On the inside we put “In Japanese that says “You’re a Big Fat Green Booger” and then in very little font under that (…or it means Happy Birthday). She immediately got out her phone to look up what it REALLY meant!!! She doesn’t trust my husband after all the practical jokes he has pulled on her!!

Triple Matte Technique

Manger Scene

I was so excited to see The Paper Studio come out with a Christian Christmas Paper pack. Since I’m not a traditional stamper I’m always on the lookout for Christian Christmas stickers or papers. I wasn’t sure if I could use this piece of the pack because of how big the scene was but I was able to capture enough in a 5 1/4 x 5 1/4 card. I then used the triple matte technique…instead of stamping the design I used paper with a design on it. I then cut out the star from the original big piece and place it 3d on here.

Baby with Ruffles

Baby with Ruffle Bottom

So one of my co-workers is having child #3 that wasn’t planned. He has 2 boys now and isn’t so sure about having a girl. I laughed and said it will take 2 seconds when she arrives and he will be wrapped around her finger. So I decided I was going to make him a total girly baby card. Then another friend at work needed a baby card for her daughter-in-laws baby shower. She saw a baby card that was of shorts with ruffles on them and wanted something similar. So I pulled up this FREE image and thought “ohhh can I stick ruffles on those diaper shorts!!” Hobby Lobby had trim on sale this week so it was perfect timing. And that is how this card came about! My friend wanted teal and hot pink since that is the colors her DIL is using. I still have to make one for my co-worker but I think I will make his a little different.

Farm themed baby card

Farm Baby Congratulations

Inside: It’s a Boy! Congratulations

One of the guys I worked with last year just had his first baby so I wanted to make him a congratulations card. From what I could get out of him is that his wife was doing a vintage farm theme…well that’s how I interpreted it! So I went through my files and searched the internet and thought Farm Critters and Barn from Doodle Pantry fit the theme. I was stumped at first as what to do with the image because I just didn’t want to print it out and stick it on the card. So I went back to the internet where I found this awesome card on The Rubber Cafe Design Team Blog. The design it was the perfect design for all the elements I wanted on the card. My best friend, Stephanie, took my ideals and made the cute saying!
