Getting Sketchy with Completely Christmas

Sweet Song of Christmas

So if you have been to Completely Christmas Challenge or if you go there now you will see that I did not follow the sketch they displayed.

sketch+from+Sandy

I followed a sketch just a different one. Long story but that is what happens when life and technology get in the way!!

The story behind this card is that I did a card a year or so ago with this image for the retirement home I do crafts at. I had left over pieces so I make them and sell my cards at work. Well I had 3 card bases with the sentiment “May the sweet song of Christmas bring joy to your heart!” already printed inside, brads and a couple pieces of cut paper but not enough to make the original card. I didn’t want to cut up more supplies to make the exact card so I set it aside. So when we got the (wrong) sketch I thought it would work for this image so I pulled out the pieces. I thought I found the perfect patterned paper for it but when I went to play with the pieces last night I decided I didn’t like it. So I pulled out the scrap drawer and found the green patterned paper and it matched perfectly. So that is how this card was made.

I used Christmas Cuties Digital Stamp from Deedee’s Digis.

Sparkling Snowflakes

Snowflakes

I needed a card with “sparkle” so I could play over at Cupcake Inspirations Challenge as they are having a 300th post Bash with a TON of prizes. There will be 3 inspiration photos….one today – Sparkle, one on Tuesday – Color and one on Thursday – Confetti. You have until the March 14th to enter the three challenges. Deedee Digis is a sponsor and her prize package is part of Color challenge so that one is a must to enter if you want to win a $25.00 gift card to Deedee’s Digis. She just put some super cute Easter digital stamps in the store.

I went looking in blog land looking for inspiration. I can’t even remember how I found Tamytha’s blog with this beautiful card but I did and it inspired my card. I think you can see I took the basic ideal of the card but also made it my own.  Yes, I fussy cut all those snowflakes out!! Not sure I will make multiple of these but I do like how it turned out. I couldn’t decided what to put on the front tag so I thought it would make a good Christmas card for a teacher. Added blue jewels in the center of the snowflakes for my “sparkle” and my card was done!

CHALLENGES:

1) Cupcake Inspirations 300th Bash Challenge – Sparkle – add sparkle to your card

2) March Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com – Favorites Category – lift a card or sketch you have saved in your favorites.

3) Holly Jolly Christmas Challenge – Non-Traditional Christmas Colors. Not sure if this will count but it’s not green and red traditional colors.

4) Craftyhazelnut’s Christmas Challenge #218 – Cut it up! I cut out all the snowflakes.

Using Green on Christmas Projects

WaitingForSanta

This card was inspired by the challenge at Sparkles Christmas Challenge #50 -your creation must be mostly Green and Christmas. When I found this image, Waiting for Santa, and saw he was already wearing Green I knew it would be perfect for this challenge! I like to use pre-colored images as I’m not great with coloring. I did sneak in a little red but I think it will still count as mostly Green. The cute twine was given to me by my friend, Deedee, so it was even more perfect to pair it with one of her cute images! I used and older sketch from Sketch~N~Scrap (card sketch #16) as my inspiration which is a current sketch at the March Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com.

CHALLENGES:

1) Sparkles Christmas Challenge #50 – Use mostly Green and must be a Christmas card.

2) March Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com – sketch #4

3) Completely Christmas Challenge #52 – add texture. My texture is the twine.

4) Craftyhazelnut’s Christmas Challenge #218 – Cut it up. I cut out the boy and pop dotted him on the card.

I conquered the sketch!!

Oh Holy Night

It appears Karen, the hostess for the Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com, really likes this sketch, Sketch-N-Scrap Card sketch #7,  because she has picked it twice now for the challenge!

aug 5th

Not only has this been inspiration on her challenge I also saw it when it was originally posted! Love the sketch but apparently it scares me and my brain freezes when I try to do it. So I never conquered it…till now!! When I saw it again as inspiration on the Card Sketch challenge I knew I had to do it. Which this time wasn’t as hard as I had the perfect digital stamp from Diane’s Daydream Designs to work with – Christmas Wonder Sentiment Set. I love how it came it. It was also quick which was good because one of my regular customers forgot to play his Christmas card order for 16 cards and needed them in 2 days. So I made 5 of these! The blue patterned paper came from a DCWV paper pack that I got free from my friend Lisa.

If you like this digital image then you must get over to Diane’s Daydream Designs as she is closing shop on Dec 30th. This is what she wrote:

Daydream Designs will be closing December 31 due to tax regulation for online digital download businesses like this one.  The foreign tax is call VAT (Value Added Tax) and it requires US businesses to assess taxes for sales in countries in the European Union.  The regulations are cumbersome, and create an impossible paper nightmare for small companies.  One way around the situation would be to limit sales to US customers only, but that would cut into nearly half of all Daydream Designs sales. That scenario makes profit impossible  and necessitate the close of our store.

Hopefully there is one small silver lining for all of us….our CLOSE OUT sale.

From now through December 30

USE COUPON CODE:  DDCLOSE50 to buy anything in the store at a 50% discount.

CHALLENGES:
1) Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com – Sketch #4 – use the original sketch, Sketch-N-Scrap Card Sketch #7, as your inspiration.

Have a Flappy Christmas!

Flappy Christmas

I have been so busy with making cards for my Christmas orders that I didn’t even have time to post. I was thankful when I finished my last card last week but then I chilled for a couple days before getting my niece for a couple days so today is the first day I had time to sent down in front of the computer.

This card was made for the 52 {Christmas} Card throwdown challenge that ended on Dec 19th. But now I’m using it to tell you all of the sad news that Deedee’s Digis is closing shop Jan 31st. The new VAT tax law that goes into effect on Jan 1st is putting a lot of small digital companies out of business. The law was intended for big stores that sell games and digi downloads but they did make any exceptions for the little artist selling stamps for fun. If you haven’t heard about this read up on it…it is horrible for the small business. They would have to hire an accountant just to deal with sells to VAT countries…not feasible when you sell a digi stamp for $3.  So if you live in a VAT country and want ANY digi stamps you need to get out there and buy them before Dec 31st. There are several digi companies that will not be able to sell to VAT countries after Dec 31st even though they are keeping their doors open.

Deedee’s Digis is having a 75% off Store Closing Sale…check it out. Everything is under a $1.00. You can get a lot of cute digis for a little money right now.

I used Sketch -N- Scrap Card Sketch #39 for my inspiration. The sentiment inside says “Wishing you a Flappy Christmas”. My husband came up with “Wishing you a Flappy Holiday” but by the time I got to my computer I had accidentally switched it to Christmas.

Snowman Soup to the rescue

Deedee’s Digis is one of the sponsors for House of Cards End of Term Blog Hop. The blog hop creations were inspired by this photo:

better homes chocolate and turquoise placesetting

My plan was to use At the Table Digital Image but I just couldn’t get it to look like a Christmas card. I’m sure having a cold didn’t effect my creativity at all!

Dinner Place Setting

I liked it enough I decided to keep it and just make it a “thank you” card. I used i {heart} sketches #55 as my inspiration.

I then found paper that matched the color scheme of the inspiration photo and recolored the At the Table Digital Image to match. But when I put it all together it didn’t look like a Christmas card…as my husband said, “cute wedding card!” Since that was NOT what I was going for I took off the image so I could try to save the card. Back to the computer to find another image that might work with what I had started. Good ol’ Snowman Soup to the rescue! I changed up the layout a little using Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #234 as my inspiration.

Snowman Soup

I was happy with my result and glad I didn’t have to throw a card away!

The Glory of Christmas

Diane’s Daydream Designs is sponsoring Penny’s Paper-Crafty Challenge this week and the challenge is Use Black Cardstock. This card took some work even though it is a Clean & Simple (CAS) card. Funny how the more simple cards take the most work. What I had in mind did not work out so I flipped the paper over to this word print design. Which I thought would be too busy but I ended up liking it! I kept trying to stick a star on here but my best friend would not give in and kept telling me NO (in a nice way). Then I asked my husband and he agreed with her so no star! I think it is simple and to the point…Christmas is about Christ the Lord!

I’m sure you have black cardstock lying around so come play with us!

CHALLENGES:

1) Crafty Hazelnut’s Christmas Challenge #202 – Keep it flat. I put enamel dots on there but they aren’t as thick as a brad so I think it will mail with no extra postage.

2) Christmas Card Challenge #50 – Faith based.

3) Christmas Stampin’ All Year Long Challenge #36 (CSAYL) – Anything Goes

4) Crimbo Crackers Challenge #69 – Clean & Simple (CAS)

5) My Perfect Life – Festive 48 Challenge – Week 44 – make one Christmas card a week all year long!

SUPPLIES:

Cardstock: Bazzill

Patterned Paper: MME (Christmas 6 x 6 paper pad)
