Style as cool as you

Mothers Day Style

Inside: When I grow up, I hope to have style as cool as you!

One of the guys at work learned (the hard way on his wife’s 1st Mother’s Day after they adopted their baby girl) that he is suppose to get a card for his wife from their daughter. So he asked if I could make one that was centered around their girl and that they both like clothes and shopping. He also said his daughter loves the color purple so this is what I came up with.

  1. Melonheadz Friends – Pastel Color Challenge – I used pastel colors and a Melonheadz image!!
  2. C.R.A.F.T. Challenge #362 – Paper Piecing – I pieced the girls outfit with coordinating papers.
  3. Aloha Friday Challenge #71 – Girly Cards
  4. Sugar Sketch Challenge #52 – use the sketch provided. Instead of a half circle I used a rectangle. And instead of one embellishment I used 3 gems.

Cardstock: Bazzill

Patterned Paper: KI Memories (from long long time ago)

Inks: pre-colored digital image printed on Canon Inkjet Printer

Accents/Tools: gems, embossing folder, Fiskars scallop border punch

Technique: paper pieced the clothes.

Coral Flower bouquet

Another Mother’s Day card!! She wanted a simple style card with flowers and a banner that said “For a Special Person”. I sent her the color combo from the April Inspirational Card Challenge – color category and she loved it. So this is what I came up with. I used Sketch #3 from the April Card Sketch Challenge (the original sketch was from pagemaps) as my inspiration.

1) Little Claire’s Monthly Challenge #68 – Spring Colors

Kids Mother’s Day Card

Kids Mothers Day Card

So every year I make one of my bosses a Valentine and Mother’s Day card for his wife. He likes his kids to be represented on the Mother’s Day card in some way. This year I decided to go back to having actual kids on the card like I did a couple years ago. His kids are actually growing up (Emily (24), Megan (19), Adam (15), Michael (13)) so I had to find “older” looking kids. In my search I found an awesome digi site Melonheadz. I did some creative cutting with using heads from one kid and placing it on another body. I then paper pieced the clothes on top.

The design of this card happened on accident! Got to love happy accidents. I was trying to figure out how I was going to fit four kids on a card with out making it super huge. Then I remembered that the Technique category in the April Inspirational Card Challenge is to do a technique you have been meaning to try. Well I have been wanting to do a Center Step Card so I decided that could work for 4 kids. Then I went to look for paper in my scrap drawers I thought this paper might work with all the different colors. I happened to have some of the Bingo Card scraps and that is how the card came together.

1) April Inspirational Card Challenge – Technique Category – try a technique you have been wanting to try. I did the Center Step Card.
2) Melonheadz Friends – Pastel Colors Challenge or if you use a Melonheadz image the theme can be Anything Goes. I used the Kidlettes Brown Hair combo pack.

Mothers Day bouquet

So last year I found one sheet of each of this paper and decided to buy it even though I struggle using the journaling cards. Since everything is on there sometimes I feel the card is too plain. But I decided to see how many I could make up in one night and I made 5!! I will post the others later but this one was inspired by Anna’s card as part of the April Inspirational Card Challenge so I wanted to post it. Thanks Anna for the inspiration!!

Flowers for Mom

I made this card as a sample for Outlawz Greeting Challenge – Mother’s Day Card with one flower. When I saw the bonus sketch in the May’s Card Sketch Challenge I thought the Blooming Blessings Digi from Deedee’s Digis would be perfect. It wasn’t coming together because I was trying to do the blocks in different colors so I went back and looked at Karen’s (TexasMomof4) sample. I decided I would try that look with the white background and I like it. A little more tweaking here and there and I finally came out with a card I like! The swirls are from the Cricut Calligraphy Collection cartridge. I printed the swirls and then cut them in half and then stuck the two halves together to get the look I wanted. I think I will add yellow stickles in the middle of the flowers to give it a little sparkle.

Happy Birthday Mom!

So my best friend has a Corgi named Wriley. Wriley contacted me (Aunt Kathy) and explained he would like to get his mother flowers and a card for her birthday. So of course I told him I would help him. Then Deedee surprises me with this awesome Digi of the Month stamp that has a Corgi bringing slippers. I changed the slippers to pink (her favorite color) and then tt was PERFECT for my best friend’s birthday card from Wriley!
