Yorkie Birthday Box

yorkie-in-a-birthday-box

I got a request to make a birthday card for a groomer. Last year I needed a Yorkie birthday card so I went looking through the internet. I found a cute Yorkie in a cup at Cute As A Button Designs but there was Holly on the cup for Christmas. So I wrote the designer for permission to have my husband take the Holly off so I could use it for a Birthday Card. She said better yet I’ll draw you a Birthday Yorkie!! Such a sweet artist. So I made the card (realized I forgot to post it so will do that shortly) for a lady in her 70’s and she loved it. So I decided to use that image again for the groomer. It is amazing how cards have different feel to it depending on the paper and design that is used. I went for a more vibrant feel on this card….it just happened because when I saw that balloon paper I thought it was cute with the image! I used sketch #5 from the Jan Card Sketch Challenge @ scrapbook.com. This is also for the Jan Inspirational Card Challenge @ scrapbook.com – Bonus – I need birthday cards to replenish my stock so I made 3 more of these to do just that!

I realized making a card this year with this image that I forgot to post this card last year when I made it April 2016. I needed a birthday card for a lady in her 70’s that liked Yorkies. I went searching the internet and found a cute Yorkie in a cup at Cute as a Button Designs. But the cup had Holly in it as it was a Christmas Image. I wrote the designer for permission to remove the Holly so I could make it a birthday card. She said she would make me a Birthday Yorkie and this is what she came up with!! Adorable!! So my husband colored in the dog and inside of the box and I paper pieced the rest.

I can’t remember the sketch but if I find it I will update it.

SUPPLIES:
Digital Image: Yorkie Birthday @ Cute As A Button Designs
Cardstock: Bazzill
Patterned Paper: Chatterbox (pre 2006)
Technique: paper pieced
Accents/Tools: flower brads, Fiskars border punch – threading water, cutter bee scissors, Xyron X

Kids Mother’s Day Card

Kids Mothers Day Card

So every year I make one of my bosses a Valentine and Mother’s Day card for his wife. He likes his kids to be represented on the Mother’s Day card in some way. This year I decided to go back to having actual kids on the card like I did a couple years ago. His kids are actually growing up (Emily (24), Megan (19), Adam (15), Michael (13)) so I had to find “older” looking kids. In my search I found an awesome digi site Melonheadz. I did some creative cutting with using heads from one kid and placing it on another body. I then paper pieced the clothes on top.

The design of this card happened on accident! Got to love happy accidents. I was trying to figure out how I was going to fit four kids on a card with out making it super huge. Then I remembered that the Technique category in the April Inspirational Card Challenge is to do a technique you have been meaning to try. Well I have been wanting to do a Center Step Card so I decided that could work for 4 kids. Then I went to look for paper in my scrap drawers I thought this paper might work with all the different colors. I happened to have some of the Bingo Card scraps and that is how the card came together.

CHALLENGES:
1) April Inspirational Card Challenge – Technique Category – try a technique you have been wanting to try. I did the Center Step Card.
2) Melonheadz Friends – Pastel Colors Challenge or if you use a Melonheadz image the theme can be Anything Goes. I used the Kidlettes Brown Hair combo pack.

Patterned Paper: Simple Stories (FabUlous Collection)
Inks: pre-colored digital images printed on Canon Inkjet Printer

Love Sunflower

Love Always

I bought a package of chalkboard tags last year and never got around to using them. So this year I saw Kathy101 post a sketch using a tag and thought they would be perfect. Well after several attempts I couldn’t get that sketch to work so I moved onto another sketch, Tuesday Morning Sketches #336, and love the outcome. I also went with these Chalkboard tags because the product category at the Inspirational Card Challenge is Chalkboard product. I paired it with a sunflower since one of the guys at work that placed an order his girlfriend’s favorite flower is the sunflower. And every girl should get their favorite flower on Valentine’s Day!I also have a goal to use up my non dwindling supplies so the background heart paper were scraps I had.

I had two tags that would work for this design so made two cards!

1) Feb Inspirational Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com – product category – chalkboard
2) 4 Crafty Chicks Challenge #284 (4 CC#284) – Love

HappyPlace

Oh I would love to be somewhere tropical or anywhere with water really (I’d even take a lazy river or pool!)….then I would be in my happy place! I realized that today is my really only day off till the end of the month since I’m getting my niece on Monday-Tuesday. So I decided I better get my Progressive challenges done. Which will shock them because I’m usually posting with only hours to spare! I decided to paper piece this image since my husband has been busy with work I didn’t want to ask him to color it. Took longer but I love it. I might ask him to color it in these colors when he has time so I can make more with my left over paper. Too hard to make more than one when you paper piece! I love how this turned out. It came together pretty easy since I found the perfect sketch at Mojo Monday and then found the color scheme at Colour Q.

CHALLENGES:

1) From the Heart Stamps – Digital of the Month Stamp Challenge – use the digital stamp provided and get next months image FREE!

2) Colour Q #300 – use the colors provided to make your project
