Light the Candles – (in my style) -Alternatives

I finally finished making cards from the Stampin’ Up kit, Light the Candles Card Kit, in “my style.” I loved the kit when I first saw it but I knew I would change it to fit “my style”. Plus, I like to see how many cards I can make from one kit. I made duplicates of these 6 designs and I was able to make 31 cards so far!! Here are all the cards I made from the kit. I have a little bit left over but this kit has taken me longer than I wanted to design it and kit it up so those pieces will have to wait to be used!

Since I posted card #1 in another post I will start with card #6 and work my way backwards.

Here is card #6 that I made. I got the idea from one of Diana Gibbs alternative cards on her blog, Stamping with Di. She took the laser cut candles and used them for a different card which left her the background sheet of the strips. She used one of the chickens from Hey Birthday Chick stamps by Stampin’ Up. To change mine up a little I found a panda set that I thought was perfect. The music stamps come on the stamp but I stamped them by themselves so I could place them where they needed to go. I added a banner and a circle for the sentiment. This card reminded me why stamping is so frustrating to me. I made enough stuff to make like 8 cards but with all my stamping mess ups I ended up with 3!! So I ended up cutting my own strips and putting Wink of Stella glitter brush on them. This card is 6 ¼ x 4 ¼ .

Supplies:

Cardstock: Bazzill (Sunbeam, Raven), American Crafts (Robins Egg, Lip gloss), Doodlebug (Tangerine)
Patterned Paper: Stampin Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Gina K Foam Tape (1/16), My Favorite Things banner die (Shadow Box Swag MFT1984),

Crafters Companion Great Minds Stamp, pom pom, 1 ¾ circle cut on Cricut, Wink of Stella brush

Here is card #5 that I made. I got the idea from Helen Read’s cards I found on the Pinterest (Her blog is All Things Stampy)….she also inspired card #4 too! She used the background paper that goes behind the candles and stamped right on the glitter to say “Happy Happy” and then “birthday on the last one. I did run the glitter paper through my printer and it worked but decided I didn’t want to do that a lot with a chance of glitter getting in the printer. So I cut the strips from card stock and printed on that. I used only the color strips and not the white like Helen Read did. I decided to pair mine with a large balloon and embossing folder background. The yellow dotted paper is from inside an envelope. These cards are 4 ¼ x 5 ½.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill (Admiral, Sunbeam, Raven), American Crafts (Robins Egg, Lipgloss), Doodlebug (Tangerine)
Patterned Paper: Stampin’ Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Gina K Foam Tape (1/16), Lawn Fawn Balloons (LF856), Spellbinders Embossing Folder (Stargazer SES-016)

Here is card #4 that I made. Now this card I was hoping to go more masculine (without pink). Even though it doesn’t have pink I’m not sure I consider it totally masculine! I got the idea from Helen Read’s cards I found on the Pinterest (Her blog is All Things Stampy)….she also inspired card #5 too! She used the background paper that goes behind the candles to make another card so she had the top laser cut piece and she backed it with red and blue. In making this card and #5 there were several boo boo’s so they evolved as I went. I used Try Stampin’ –Or Not- On Tuesday Sketch #616 (TSOT616) and made it a 5 ¼ x 5 ¼ square card.

Supplies:

Cardstock: Bazzill (Admiral, White), American Crafts (Robins Egg), Doodlebug (Tangerine)
Laser cut candles: Stampin Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Sizzix Thinlits Borders #559200, Gina K Foam Tape (1/16), jewel from kit, Eyelet Outlet (white enamel dots), Queen & Company Epoxy dots (orange), Cricut Cuttlebug Embossing Folder (Swiss Dots)

This is the 3rd card I made from the kit. I used Sketch #2 from the August 2023 Card Sketch Challenge at Scrapbook.com. The original sketch is CAS(E) this Sketch #243(CTS#243). I turned it on its side and made it a horizontal card.

I made the Teacher card first because as I was looking for inspiration that is the one that inspired me. I thought with the generic papers it could be a Teacher Thank You card. Then this morning as I was getting ready to post and put stuff away I saw the Wish Big and thought oh that could work to. So I had to make one to see and I liked it to. So I ended up with two Teacher cards and two Birthday cards. Karen S is a bad influence on me because she makes things look so cute and easy. Because of Karen S. I have a bunch of sentiments like this that has a big word (die cut) and then a little stamp that goes with it. Karen S. uses them all the time and they look cute! But I struggle when I use them. So I was sooooo excited this came out and I got to use some!!

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill (Admiral, Sunbeam), American Crafts (Robins Egg, Lipgloss), Doodlebug (Tangerine)
Patterned Paper: Stampin Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Sizzix Framelits Stars Dotted #662731, Sizzix Thinlits Borders #559200, Queen and Company Sentiment Stacker #2, Gina K Foam Tape (1/16), jewel from kit.

This is the 2nd card I made from the kit. This card is similar to the sample in the kit. The orange patterned background is actually the card base in the kit. My card is 6 x 6 so I opened the card base and cut it to make a 5 ½ x 5 ½ square. The line from the original card showed so I covered it up with the blue banner!! I cut the white part around the cake so there wasn’t so much of it. I then made it into a shaker card. I felt the white was too plain so I used Confetti Die by Your Next Stamp to cut out all the little dots around the cake. The stamp sentiment was too big for my space so I just printed it on my computer. I used Sketch #1 from the August 2023 Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com. The original sketch is MFTWSC290. I turned it on its side and instead of the banner going across the image I turned it into the tab on the side. I wasnt sure about the sketch but when I turned it I loved how it came out.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill (Admiral), American Crafts (Robins Egg, Lipgloss),
Patterned Paper: Stampin Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Confetti Metal Die (Your Next Stamp), Foam strips from card kit, acetate, small corner rounder, jewel from kit.

This is for Sketch #4 of the August 2023 Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com. When I saw the sketch I knew it would be hard for me the way it was in the middle of the paper. I liked it better turned on its side and that is how this card came about. This is card #1 using the Light the Candles Kit from Stampin’ Up. The patterned paper is actually an envelope undone and used. I made two half circles out of one envelope (so 1 envelope will make 2 cards). I don’t have all of Stampin’ Up cardstock so I used Bazzill that also matched.

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill (Admiral), Doodlebug (Tangerine), American Crafts (Robins Egg), Stampin’ Up (Magenta Madness)
Patterned Paper: Stampin’ Up (Light the Candles Card Kit)
Accent/Tools: Cuttlebug Embossing Folder (Swiss dots), Gina Marie Design Dies (Circle Stitch), Sizzix Framelits Stars Dotted #662731, Gina K Foam Tape (1/16).

Rainbows, unicorns and scraps of cardstock!

In 2020 I made mother's day cards using strips of cardstock. I did this because I needed a rainbow inspired card for a mother that loves rainbows! Since then I have made several different cards with the same concept.

In February 2021 I made these for a couple orders:
SUPPLIES:
Metal Dies: Sizzix (Stephanie Barnard -Stars), Stampin' Up (Stitched Stars), Creative Expressions (Happy Birthday CEDSS009)
Embossing Folder: Darice (stars assorted)
In September 2021 I made these:
The small note card "Yay" (yay is in black) was for a young girl starting 6th grade. It was to encourage to have fun and enjoy the 6th grade.
SUPPLIES:
Metal Die: Concord and 9th (Yay Dies #10373), Sizzix (Stephanie Barnard -Stars), Stampin' Up (Stitched Stars), Creative Expressions (Happy Birthday CEDSS009)
In November a friend of mind needed a unicorn or rainbow card for her granddaughter so I made these using both! She picked the pink and blue one! The unicorn given to me by my friend Ro!! Thanks Ro!

Australian Inspired birthday card!

So I have been exposed to Covid-19 a lot lately and I finally tested positive for it. So while I rest I hope to get caught up on a few things and one of them being my blog. As you can tell it has been neglected for awhile now with barely any post. I have created but just didn’t have time to create and blog. So I’m hoping in these 10 days off the Lord will allow me to be well enough to do a few things on the to-do list.

So one of my nephews had a birthday in September and I just couldn't create the right card for him. And then weeks turned into months and the poor boy never got a card or his present. Which I was just going to give him money because time was getting away from me. But I really didn't want to do that because even though I was late I wanted to make sure he knew he was special and loved. His mom had told me he is into Australia right now and he loves to learn about new things. Well, I went to Beccy's Place Blog and saw a brand new stamp released this month and it was perfect!! It is called Limited Edition and it is a platypus!! The creative juices flowed and I even got out the Distress Oxide inks my friend Karen taught me how to use last year. I made the background (Salvaged patina and peacock feathers) by starting with lighter and going darker. Then I spritzed it with water. Then I used Blueprint sketch Distress Oxide ink on paper and cut the 10 out of it. I printed the bubbles from the digital stamp directly on my background piece. I love how it turned out!! I went with a 7 1/4 x 3 3/4 card as it was the perfect size for the platypus swimming to the number 10!! (It uses a 7 1/2 x 4 envelope that I had to special order).

This card also inspired me to find books to go with it. So I find a cool book that comes in a series called Platypus Police Squad and I got him the first book - The Frog who Croaked. Which is double awesome because it is about a platypus and a cop (his dad is a police officer!) I also got him a book on the animals in Australia (A is for Australian Animals) and a book on Australia (A is for Australia)

I hope to turn this design into some Hello Cards instead of the 10 being on there. We will see what happens and I'll post if I get them made!!

Raccoon inspired cards

Racoon - Be Happy

I had a request from a lady who wanted a birthday card for her niece that was in her 20’s. One of the things she liked was raccoons so I decided this image from Gerda Steiner was perfect. The lady requested “be happy” on the sign.

SUPPLIES:

Cardstock: Bazzill (parakeet, brown, starmist, african daisy)
Metal Dies: Spellbinders (Suns and clouds), Joy crafts (clouds), io dies (tiny flowers)
Accents/tools: Nuvo drops (Ivory seashell), pop dots
Colors: digital stamp colored in Photoshop by my husband.

I then decided this would be the perfect card to send to a nursing home in Texas asking for cards during the quarantine.

Racoon - Happy Thoughts

The guys at work told me to take a day off since it has been a stressful month. They told me to make cards or something. Well that night I saw a post where a retirement/nursing home in Texas wanted cards sent to the residents. So I told them I made this so they all they had to sign it!! What was funny was that I didn’t bring in right away and they even asked me where the card was for the “nursing home!!” They try to be tough but they have soft hearts!!

I just changed the sign to “Sending Happy Thoughts” to make it a thinking of you from Missouri card.

Cat With Sign – Birthday

Cat Sign Birthday

So I needed a card for my co-workers wife and my niece. They both like cats so I went looking in my images and found this digital stamp (also comes in a clear stamp) from Gerda Steiner (Cat Holding Sign). My co-worker got deployed at the end of Dec and his wife turned 30 this month. I know it has to be hard without her husband so I’m going to send the card with a small gift certificate to get some local Andy’s Custard!
On my niece’s card I will place her name on the sign instead of the age. Found the patterned paper in a workout paper pad from Michael’s (Craft Smith)….trying to use up some stuff on hand.

I used sketch #3 from the Jan Card Sketch Challenge on Scrapbook.com. The original sketch can be found  Here At MojoMonday.

SUPPLIES:
Cardstock: Bazzill (Whirlpool, lily pond, Kachina, velvet)
Patterned Paper: Michael’s Paper Pad/Craft Smith (Working on my Fitness)

Poppy Mouse – Thanks

Thanks Mouse

So I bought this image several months ago to make a thank you card for some co-workers that saved my butt! They re-arranged their schedule to help me and I wanted to let them know how much I appreciated them. Well life got in the way and I hadn’t been able to make the card till tonight. I saw the challenge at Cute Card Thursday – One Word Sentiment. The challenge is being sponsored by Di’s Digi Stamps and this is one of her digital stamps so I had to play along. I thought sketch #2 at February Card Sketch Challenge @ Scrapbook.com would be perfect for this. I had the hardest time finding paper that I liked and could make it work with this sketch. I’m happy with the outcome! This also fits the Photo Inspiration Category at the February Inspirational Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com.

Original sketch is a Skipping Stones Design. Found it here: http://craftsbybeth.blogspot.com/2016/06/using-card-maps-series-ii.html

Plaid Snowman w-stickles

My Christmas stash is gone so needed to make some Christmas cards. When I saw this FREE image I thought it would make super cute cards and I have a friend that would love it! And I think my step-MIL will like this one too! One of my regulars needed a card for a friend of his and he didn’t have anything in mind. So I thought this would work. I sent him a photo and his response was “can I have that one for my mom instead!” He said she loves Cardinals. So then I had to think of another card for his friend (see button Christmas tree). I added stickles to the snowflakes and snow mounds but the snowflake sparkle didn’t show up very well. I used this card from Taylored Expressions as my inspiration.

CHALLENGES:
1) December Inspirational Card Challenge @ Scrapbook.com – Lift Category – lift a card from Taylored Expressions blog or Pinterest.
2) December Scraplift your Favorites @ Scrapbook.com – Any Favorite. You can lift a favorite layout, a favorite card, a favorite sketch, a favorite project or whatever your favorites may be. It can be a favorite from anywhere (Pinterest, blog, scrapbook.com, etc).

Digital Stamp: Warm Winter Snow @ Free Dearie Dolls Digi Stamps (she has three versions with and without snow) My husband then worked his magic and made it a color version with no snow.
Inks: pre-colored digital image printed on Canon Inkjet Printer
Cardstock: Bazzill (bazzill red, white, raven)
Patterned Paper: The Paper Studio (Plaid Tidings)
Accents/Tools: Darice snowflake embossing folder, Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders, Frosted Lace Stickles, EK Success 1/16 pop dots.

Peacock

Boss's Day - peacock

So I had a couple last minute Boss’s Day cards (Monday Oct 16, 17) to make yesterday (she emailed Thursday asking for cards on Friday…good thing I was off!) The lady liked a peacock card I did in May for Mother’s Day but she wanted a saying on the front. So I made a new card with the same image (printed just a little smaller to fit on 5 x 7 card with different design). The lift category in the October Inspirational Card Challenge is to lift yourself! So I went looking in my gallery to see if any of my cards would allow for a large image and a saying on the front. Again I wanted to keep the focus on the beautiful image. I found the card BirdBrain Birthday Candle (which is inspired by MojoBella #25 Sketch)

I did print a second copy and cut out the peacock so I could pop dot it on the original to make it look like the peacock was really on the leaves.

SUPPLIES:
Digital Image: Pretty Peacock – Doodle Pantry (no longer in business)
Inks: pre-colored digital stamp printed on a Canon Inkjet printer
Cardstock: Bazzill (Raven, Pumpkin Patch, Sour Apple, PaulyPoo, Glow, White)
Accents/Tools: Cricut, Elegant Edges Cricut Cartridge, Cutter bee scissors, EK Success 1/16 pop dots

Peacock

So I apparently forgot to post this when I made this for a Mother’s Day order! (I discovered this while making a second version with this image…see next post) This was for a lady’s grandmother who loves birds and she requested a peacock this time. I wanted the image to be the focus so I made it pretty large which kept the design of the card simple. I did print a second copy and cut out the peacock so I could pop dot it on the original to make it look like the peacock was really on the leaves.

Eaten by a Bear?

Eaten by Bears

So a friend of mine has been having some trying times since her 3rd child came along. During the holidays if it could go wrong it did. She was laid on my heart so I decided to send her a card of encouragement because parenthood can be trying! I found this saying on the internet and thought it was hilarious and so her!!
At the end of the day…
Have any of your Children been eaten by a bear?
No.
See, you’re a good mom.

So I went looking for bear images. I found “Happy Stanley” at Beccy’s Place. His expression was perfect but he had a shirt collar and tie on so I asked Beccy for permission to have my husband remove the shirt and tie. She gave us permission and my wonderful husband made Stanley plain!! The grin is perfect for the saying and just makes me smile each time I see it!!
It took a week to get there…I couldn’t believe it! She received it Friday and said it was perfect timing as she was needing encouragement that day!! God is always perfect in his timing!

I used Atlantic Hearts Sketch #196 that I had saved so this card fits the March Card Inspiration Challenge – Favorites Category. It also fits Beccy’s Place March Challenge – make a card using any image of hers (even free ones) for a chance to win free digital stamps.

SUPPLIES:
